wirelessdataYukon Telephone Co. Inc., Tanana Power Co. Inc., and Supervisions Cable TV are affiliated companies managed by the Eller family.  Yukon Telephone provides local telephone service in the communities of Ruby, Tanana, and Whittier Alaska; Tanana Power generates and distributes electricity for the community of Tanana, Alaska; and   Supervisions Cable TV provides Cable TV and High Speed Internet services for Tanana and Whittier Alaska.

In 1960, Yukon started providing telephone service to Tanana, making it one of the first villages to have local telephone service.  In 1980, Yukon was requested by the residents of Ruby to provide telephone service and in 1984 Yukon purchased the Whittier exchange.  Supervision Cable TV was started in 1986 and provided cable services to both Tanana and Whittier.  High Speed Internet service was added to Whittier in 2000, making it the second community in Alaska to have two way broadband services via cable.  High Speed Internet access was eventually added to Tanana, bringing this small rural village into the 21st century.

Tanana Power is one of four village power systems to have implemented a fully automated switch gear system with an excellent rating.  According to a survey done for The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority, Tanana Power is known for having the best run and maintained rural power system

A core group of 7 talented individuals are responsible for maintaining and expanding all the services provided.  Paula Eller is known throughout the telecommunications industry as an advocate for keeping local phone rates affordable for rural Alaskan consumers and is often considered to be the Ambassador for Alaska in telecommunications.  Her extensive service on the boards of USTA (United States Telephone Association), OPASTCO (Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telephone Companies), and RTFC (Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative) as well as her tireless efforts to keep Congress and the FCC informed of the impact their decisions have on rural America earned her the Chairman’s Award from OPASTCO.  The criteria for this award is to have a record of outstanding contributions that benefit the independent telephone industry on a national level.

Yukon Telephone Co. Inc. is a small closely held cooperation, however the impact it and its affiliated companies have had to their customers and communities they serve are tremendous.  Below are links to some articles and pictures which should give you an idea of what we do and where we came from.
